The 2023 YouthStart Entrepreneurial Challenge: Nurturing Tomorrow’s Business Leaders

The Social Development and Early Childhood Development Department of the city has recently launched the 2023 YouthStart Entrepreneurial Challenge. The competition aims to identify and support the most promising young entrepreneurs who have the potential to reshape the business landscape in the coming years.

The Competition Details

The competition started with 162 participants initially vying for the top spots. The department has narrowed them down to the top 100, who are currently undergoing rigorous training sessions in preparation for the final round of the challenge. The competition has been divided into two distinct categories – existing businesses and business ideas.

The top three existing businesses and the top five business ideas will advance to the final stage, competing for the ultimate prizes. The diverse range of business categories featured in the challenge includes agriculture/farming, business services, tourism, finance, manufacturing, and information technology (IT).

The Training Sessions

Participants have been engrossed in a series of training sessions since June 3, which will continue until June 17, 2023. These practical sessions focus on preparing the young entrepreneurs for pitching their ideas and businesses to an esteemed adjudication panel. The final pitch for the existing businesses category is scheduled for June 17, 2023, followed by site visits as part of a verification process.

The Award Ceremony

The award ceremony, scheduled for June 21, 2023, is poised to be a momentous occasion, celebrating the hard work and dedication of these young entrepreneurs. Councillor Patricia van der Ross, Mayoral Committee Member for Community Services and Health, shared her enthusiasm for the competition, highlighting the value of this unique experience.
