The President will host a joint working visit with the Prime Ministers of the Netherlands, Mr. Mark Rutte, and Denmark, Ms. Mette Frederiksen, on June 20, 2023. This visit aims to maximize the positive impact of Dutch and Danish high-level business and investment delegations. The collaboration between the Netherlands and Denmark in green hydrogen investments also strengthens South Africa’s ties with two essential European partners.
Summit for a New Global Financing Pact in Paris, France
Furthermore, President Ramaphosa will participate in the Summit for a new Global Financing Pact from June 22 to 23, 2023, in Paris, France. The summit aims to build a new contract between countries of the North and the South to address climate change as a global crisis. It will provide an opportunity to discuss key issues, such as the reform of multilateral development financial institutions, debt crisis, innovative financing, international taxes, and special withdrawing rights (SDRs).
Investigation into the Circumstances Surrounding the Docking of a Russian Vessel
As South Africa progresses, the inquiry panel led by retired Judge Phineas Mojapelo continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the docking of a Russian vessel, Lady R, in Simons Town. The panel will interact with all concerned role players and hear from interested parties with information that will assist its investigation.
Condolences to the Family of Legendary Bafana Coach Clive Barker and Media Tycoon Silvio Berlusconi
On a somber note, President Ramaphosa has expressed his deepest condolences to the family, friends, and soccer fraternity of legendary Bafana coach Clive Barker, who passed away on June 10, 2023, at the age of 78. Barker played a pivotal role in South African football and its development, leading the nation to victory during the 1996 African Cup of Nations.
The President also joined the global media fraternity in mourning the passing of media tycoon Silvio Berlusconi, who died at the age of 86. Berlusconi created Italy’s largest media company and served as the country’s Prime Minister in four governments. President Ramaphosa offered heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Italy.
