The first AU-EU STI Ministerial event led to the development of the AU-EU Innovation Agenda, which focuses on four research and innovation areas: Public Health, Green Transition, Innovation and Technology, and Capacities for Science. The Agenda institutionalizes cooperation in research and innovation between Africa and Europe. It aligns with other continental policy priorities such as the Science, Technology and Innovation Strategy for Africa (STISA 2024) and Agenda 2063.

Projects for Capacity Building and Networking

South Africa’s participation in various AU-EU projects promotes capacity building, knowledge sharing, and networking within the African continent. These projects include the Long-Term Europe-Africa Partnership in Renewable Energy (LEAP-RE) and the Food and Nutrition Security and Sustainable Agriculture (LEAP4FNSSA). They focus on creating long-term platforms for renewable energy and resilient food systems and provide opportunities for youth, private sector, and civil society to participate in research and innovation.

Strengthening Cooperation with the EU
