Empowering Communities with Operation Shanela: A High-Density Policing Success in the Western Cape

The Western Cape police have launched a high-density operation called “Operation Shanela” in their battle against crime. From June 12 to June 18, 2023, this initiative has resulted in the arrest of 2,011 suspects and has made significant inroads against crime in the affected areas of the Western Cape.

Working in collaboration with other law enforcement agencies, the South African Police Service (SAPS) has focused on intensive policing efforts targeting serious and violent crimes, illegal firearms, and drug-related offenses.
