Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company (TMACC) celebrated Mandela Day on July 18th by hosting a memorable day for children from Home from Home, a local child protection organization. Established 18 years ago, Home from Home has been providing loving support to vulnerable children in the Western Cape by offering permanent, family-style foster care within 16 communities across the province.

Bringing Joy and Enchantment to Children

TMACC organized the day out to bring joy and enchantment to children who might never have had a chance to experience the iconic Table Mountain up close. Many of the children have seen the mountain from afar, but never thought they would have the opportunity to ride the cable car to the summit.

Thrilling Options for Reaching the Summit

The children were given two thrilling options for reaching the mountain’s peak: a cable car ride or a hike up the picturesque Platteklip Gorge. Regardless of their chosen mode of ascent, all were treated to a delightful lunch and refreshing beverages upon reaching the mountaintop.

An Inspiring Talk by a Passionate Ambassador

The day’s excitement culminated in an inspiring talk by Pasteur Nkurunziza, a store assistant in TMACC’s retail department and a passionate ambassador for Table Mountain. Originally from Burundi, Pasteur shared his story of overcoming adversity in South Africa and finding a home at the mountain. He emphasized the importance of the safe space Home from Home provides, likening it to the refuge the mountain and Cableway provided for him.

Inspiring Children and Educating Them About Their Environment

The day’s events aimed to inspire the children, educate them about their environment, and allow them to explore the natural beauty of Cape Town. The message of hope was clear: no matter one’s background, it’s possible to achieve a great deal in life.

The Power of Community Support

TMACC conveyed that there are people in Cape Town who care and stand ready to help those who are in need, a sentiment that resonates with the spirit of Mandela Day. This heartwarming day on Table Mountain, filled with joy, inspiration, and camaraderie, showcased the power of community support and the vital role it plays in nurturing the dreams of vulnerable youth.

Leaving a Lasting Impression

By taking the time to connect with these children and provide them with unforgettable experiences, TMACC and Home from Home have undoubtedly left a lasting impression on their young minds. The memory of their day on the mountain will serve as a reminder that they too can rise above adversity and achieve their dreams, just as Pasteur Nkurunziza did.

In conclusion, TMACC’s celebration of Mandela Day on Table Mountain was a day filled with joy, inspiration, and hope. It demonstrated the power of community support and the vital role it plays in nurturing the dreams of vulnerable youth. By providing these children with unforgettable experiences, TMACC and Home from Home have left a lasting impression on their young minds, reminding them that they too can achieve great things in life.
