In the second row, Marvin Orie and Jean Kleyn will be the starting lock pairing, with Lood de Jager missing from the list. De Jager, who last played in the Springboks’ 30-25 defeat against the All Blacks at the Rugby Championship in Auckland, is in dire need of game time before the World Cup. Unfortunately, he has been ruled out of this weekend’s match against Los Pumas due to a medical condition that Nienaber described as “a bit chesty.”

Nienaber explained that selecting De Jager would have been a risk, given his current state. “Unfortunately, Lood is a little bit chesty, and we didn’t want to take a chance. Medically, he is sick, and we felt it would be a bit of a risk [if he was selected].”
