The World of Veld & Sea

Veld & Sea’s glasshouse serves as the classroom for interactive, seasonal workshops, boasting an array of thrifted trinkets, flora, and books, creating an atmosphere that is both soothing and inspiring.

The Journey of Roushanna Gray

Founded by Roushanna Gray, Veld & Sea is rooted in her family’s history and knowledge passed down through generations. Roushanna initially began her journey into the world of wild food with a tea garden, offering unique wild-flavored tea and treats, such as her famous carrot cake infused with wild mint.

Seasonal Workshops

Veld & Sea workshops focus on different aspects of nature depending on the season, teaching coastal foraging in summer, wild land foraging in winter, celebrating the world of flowers in spring and embracing the in-between and imperfect integration of nature in autumn.

The Workshop Experience

The workshops begin with a cup of tea, followed by a display of foraged items that attendees can use to personalize their flavor profiles. As guests learn to identify edible plants and create delicious concoctions, Roushanna emphasizes the importance of being confident that the ingredients are accurately identified and safe to consume.

Sharing a meal together at Veld & Sea is a significant aspect of the experience, evoking a sense of community that is often overlooked in our daily lives.

Vaping is quickly becoming a popular habit among South African teenagers, drawn by sweet fruity flavors, flashy packaging, and the buzz on social media. Many teens vape to fit in with friends, feel cool and rebellious, or to escape stress and anxiety. However, what seems like harmless fun can quickly turn into addiction, affecting their health and wellbeing. Despite the risks, vaping is often misunderstood, making it harder for families and schools to stop this growing trend. It’s a serious challenge that needs everyone—parents, teachers, and leaders—to work together to protect young people’s futures.

South African Agriculture and the Changing Winds of Trade

Since 2000, the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) has helped South African farmers sell fruits like avocados, wine, and citrus to the United States without paying extra taxes. This chance boosted farming communities, especially small farmers and women, by opening up new markets and encouraging growth. But recent U.S. tariffs threaten these gains, making it harder for farmers to compete and putting many livelihoods at risk. Still, South African farmers remain strong and hopeful, working hard to face these new challenges and keep their communities alive.
