Celebrate the beauty of spring by exploring the charming Tokara Wine and Olive Farm in Stellenbosch, South Africa. During the 10-day Garden Town Stellenbosch festival, from 27 October to 5 November, visitors can immerse themselves in the captivating beauty of the private gardens and exquisite sculptures created by local artists.
Upon entering the Tokara estate, visitors will be struck by the impressive sculptures that are placed throughout the property. These sculptures, part of the extensive collection of the farm’s founders GT and Anne-Marie Ferreira, are carefully positioned to enhance the overall visual and sensory experience. Anne-Marie is an enthusiastic supporter of emerging artists, and her commitment to the connection between art and winemaking is evident throughout the estate.
As visitors meander through the lush gardens, they will be met with an extraordinary array of indigenous plants, the Adamastor Moss Garden, and the textured cork oak forest. Each of these natural treasures offers a unique sensory experience and showcases the delicate balance between preserving the environment and showcasing the region’s artistic talent.
The Adamastor Moss Garden, created by renowned moss artist Gert van Tonder, is the newest addition to the Tokara estate. Over the past two years, it has evolved into a magical oasis of tranquility, featuring muted tones and a sense of quietude. Drawing inspiration from the Zen gardens of Japan, the garden is a magnificent, enchanted refuge that visitors will find impossible to forget.
Tokara’s tasting lounge and restaurant feature exquisite art pieces on their walls, while the sculpture garden at the Deli offers engaging outdoor exhibitions that further enhance the connection between the farm’s natural beauty and creative expression.
Garden Town Stellenbosch is a festival that offers various activities, including open gardens, horticultural tours, floral art, wine tastings, dining, and hiking. For a unique and unforgettable spring adventure, consider visiting Tokara during one of the two weekends it will be open to the public.
