A Platform for Dialogue and Progress

On October 20, 2023, the North West Province will welcome the District Development Model (DDM) Presidential Imbizo at J.B. Marks Local Municipality within the Dr. Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality. This vital gathering serves as a stage for the President, Ministers, and provincial leaders to interact with communities and discover solutions for the myriad socio-economic challenges they face.

The DDM Presidential Imbizo signifies the unwavering dedication of the province to enhance the lives of its inhabitants. Acting Premier Patrick Dumile Nono Maloyi expressed appreciation to the President for choosing the North West Province as the location for the DDM Presidential Imbizo’s second installment.

Dr. Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality is home to over 800,000 residents and includes three local municipalities: JB Marks, Matlosana, and Maquassi Hills. The district’s economy is heavily reliant on mining and agriculture, while the N12 Corridor offers logistics and tourism possibilities through the transportation of goods.

Addressing Service Delivery and Economic Opportunities

Following the commitments made by the provincial government during the inaugural Imbizo in Mahikeng last year, the forthcoming Imbizo aims to tackle service delivery concerns, enhance service provision, foster social cohesion, and advance developmental programs that generate economic prospects for residents.

The Accelerated Service Delivery Programme, known as Thuntsha Lerole, is in full force, addressing various service delivery issues within municipalities. In preparation for the Imbizo, departments and state-owned entities will conduct site visits to development projects throughout the District Municipality. This initiative offers residents the chance to discuss their daily challenges with government officials.

The DDM Presidential Imbizo, under the theme “Leave No One Behind,” presents communities with an exceptional opportunity to engage with the government and collaborate on solutions. The event is expected to draw communities from the Dr. Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality.

Fostering Sustainable Development and Economic Growth

The North West Province’s commitment to bettering the lives of its residents is exemplified by its ongoing efforts to organize events such as the DDM Presidential Imbizo. By establishing a forum for communication between communities and the government, the province actively addresses socio-economic issues and promotes sustainable development.

The district’s primary economic contributors, mining and agriculture, play a significant role in sustaining the local population. The N12 Corridor’s transportation of goods holds the potential to unleash a wealth of economic opportunities in logistics and tourism, adding an extra layer to the district’s development potential.

The interactive nature of the DDM Presidential Imbizo promotes open discussion between the government and communities. This dialogue is crucial for identifying the obstacles residents face and formulating strategies to surmount them. Such an approach enables the government to develop policies and programs that genuinely address the needs of the people.

A Beacon of Hope for the North West Province

As the North West Province prepares to host the DDM Presidential Imbizo, the anticipation of productive conversations and meaningful collaboration between the government and communities is tangible. The event stands as a testament to the province’s resolve to elevate the living conditions of its inhabitants and its dedication to promoting inclusive and sustainable development.

Although the North West Province and its residents face numerous challenges, events like the DDM Presidential Imbizo serve as a beacon of hope. By fostering open dialogue and working towards practical solutions, the government and communities can collaborate to devise a brighter future for all residents of the North West Province.
