AJABU was brought to life by Colin Asare Appiah, a revered figure in the Bar World and a top 100 Most Influential Figure of 2023, along with Mark Talbot Holmes, the mastermind behind the multi-award-winning U’Luvka Vodka. Their combined vision is to position AJABU as the premier African festival for spirits and cocktails.
The festival’s first edition will occur in Johannesburg from March 10 to 13, followed by Cape Town from March 14 to 17. Its purpose is to instill a sense of unity and inspiration in the hospitality industry across Africa and beyond. AJABU is meant to be a springboard for innovation, collaboration, and creativity while celebrating Africa’s vast diversity in people, ingredients, and beverages.

These international bars will team up with local favorites such as A Streetbar Named Desire, Benchwarmers, Saint, Sintax, and Smoking Kills in Johannesburg, as well as Cause Effect, Fable, Talking to Strangers, The Drinkery, The House of Machines, and Tjing Tjing in Cape Town, to create unforgettable cocktail experiences over two nights.
Asare Appiah expressed his exhilaration about bringing such globally recognized bars to South Africa and the chance for them to collaborate with exceptional local establishments in a series of innovative industry events.
