The City’s Recreation and Parks Department has announced plans to bring the Netball World Cup 2023 experience to local communities. The initiative involves setting up four public viewing areas (PVAs) to screen live games, with the aim of fostering social connections and promoting sports and recreational activities.

Enjoy Live Game Screenings at PVAs

Residents are encouraged to attend a PVA nearby, where they can enjoy the live game screenings in a secure and fun environment. The PVAs will be equipped with comfortable seating, surround sound, and uninterrupted live streaming of the games. Refreshments and snacks will be available for purchase, and local entertainment will be provided to make the event enjoyable for families and friends.

Adhering to Health and Safety Protocols

Attendance at the PVAs is free, but spectators must adhere to all health and safety protocols to ensure a secure environment. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult, and alcohol and smoking are strictly prohibited at the venues.

PVA Locations and Schedule

According to the Netball World Cup 2023 official match schedule, PVAs will be open from 28 July to 6 August, starting at 9:00 until the end of the day’s last match. Each PVA offers ample parking and ablution facilities, with a maximum capacity of 500 people at a time. The four PVA locations are:

  • Proteaville Recreation Centre, located at the corner of Peter Barlow and Abdurahman Streets, Bellville South
  • Langa Civic Hall, situated at the intersection of Church and Washington (King Langalibalele)
  • OR Tambo Multi-Purpose Centre, on Jeff Masemola Street, Khayelitsha
  • Portland Indoor Centre, at the crossing of Merrydale & Hazeldene Avenues, Portland, Mitchells Plain

City’s Commitment to Netball Fans

Councillor Patricia van der Ross, Mayoral Committee Member for Community Services and Health, expresses the City’s commitment to providing this event for its residents. The initiative aims to bring people together, creating a sense of community while offering a venue for young people to engage in sports and recreational activities. The City is dedicated to ensuring that all netball fans, including local netball teams without tickets to live games at the CTICC, can partake in the games’ energy and excitement.

Engaging Activities at Each PVA

Attendees can expect various engaging activities at each PVA, such as live performances, a DJ, food vendors, and more. Spectators are encouraged to share their experiences on social media using the hashtag #PutYourHandsUp, wear their favorite team’s colors, and bring enthusiasm to their community. The City eagerly awaits their presence and participation in this thrilling event.
