The highly anticipated Miss SA reality show, ‘Crown Chasers,’ premiered on July 9, 2021. For the first time, the show provides viewers with an inside look into the lives and aspirations of the 12 dynamic finalists competing for the prestigious Miss South Africa crown.

The Hosts and Judges

The show is hosted by the current Miss SA 2019 and Miss Universe 2019 Zozibini Tunzi, alongside reigning Miss SA Ndavi Nokeri. The panel of judges includes media personality Bonang Matheba, actress Leandie du Randt, and former Miss SA 2018 Dr. Tamaryn Green.

The Series

The five-part series, airing every Sunday on SABC, allows viewers to gain insight into each contestant’s motivations and personal stories. The program offers a unique opportunity for the audience to learn why each finalist deserves the title and promises to keep them glued to their screens as one contestant bids farewell each week.

Episode One

In the first episode, Lebohang Raputsoe was eliminated from the competition. She expressed her gratitude for the experience, describing it as a rollercoaster of emotions. “Intimidating, fun, sad, exhausting, and liberating. The crew was amazing to work with. While some of the content was difficult to film, it helped strengthen my character.”

Contestant Withdraws

Initially, the reality show was set to feature 11 contestants after Lebohang’s elimination. However, due to bullying allegations against Levern José, she withdrew from the competition. Despite her departure, the series continues with Levern as part of the show, as it was filmed before she quit.

The Grand Finale

The grand finale will take place at Sun Bet Arena at Time Square Casino in Pretoria on August 13. As anticipation builds, only seven finalists will remain to compete for the prestigious title in an enthralling culmination of the series.

A Momentous Occasion

The return of the Miss South Africa competition to SABC after a 23-year hiatus is marked by the ‘Crown Chasers’ show. The last Miss SA finale on SABC took place in 1999 at the Sun City Superbowl, with Heather Hamilton from KwaZulu Natal emerging victorious. The finale this year brings the competition full circle, as it will broadcast not only on SABC 3 but also showcase the reality show in the lead-up to the event.
