The initiative aims to emphasize the importance of active citizenry involvement in preserving natural resources and reducing waste pollution in communities. All South Africans share the responsibility of ensuring that their environment remains clean, green, and habitable. The Proliferation of Illegal Dumping and Littering Sites

Littering and illegal dumping are prevalent issues in South Africa affecting municipalities across the country. Ineffective waste management practices have led to the proliferation of illegal dumping and littering sites, negatively impacting the well-being of communities. Hence, there is a pressing need for citizens to mobilize and take a firm stance against such activities in their respective communities.

Collaborative Effort between Government Entities and Local Municipalities

The Department of Forestry, Fisheries, and the Environment, in collaboration with Lejweleputswa District and Nala Local Municipalities, is leading the initiative to address the challenges of waste management and environmental stewardship. The event highlights their collaborative effort to promote a cleaner, greener South Africa for all its residents.

Joining Hands for a Cleaner, Greener South Africa

The event will be attended by the Premier of the Free State Province, Mr. Mxoliso Dukwana, MEC of Economic, Small Business Development, Tourism, and Environmental Affairs, Mr. Thabo Meeko, Executive Mayor of Lejweleputswa – Cllr Veronica Ntakumbana, and the Mayor of Nala Local Municipality – Cllr Nozililo Martha Ntema. Together, Deputy Minister Sotyu and these dignitaries will participate in the clean-up and greening activity and hand over personal protective equipment to the cleaning and greening In-House Model participants.

The event will take place at Ward 11, Hlaboloha Primary School Hall in Bothaville, Nala Local Municipality, Free State Province, and will commence at 09:00. Members of the media are invited to attend the event and cover the initiative.
