Empowering Employers and Employees: Advocacy Seminars in Richards Bay

The Inspection and Enforcement Services (IES) branch of the Department of Employment and Labour has announced two advocacy seminars set to take place in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal, on August 23 and 24, 2023. The seminars are aimed at educating and creating awareness on various issues, including compliance with labor laws, formalizing informal businesses, and the rights and responsibilities of employers and employees.

Collaboration and Themes

The seminars are being organized in collaboration with the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation, and Arbitration (CCMA) and the uMhlathuze Municipality. The Mark Strasse Civic Centre in Richards Bay will host the seminars, which will have two themes: “Benefitting on Change” and “Paying the National Minimum Wage is the Right Thing to Do.”

Objectives

The primary goal of the seminars is to promote compliance with labor laws and formalization of informal businesses while increasing awareness of the benefits of doing so. Participants will learn about key labor legislation and the processes involved in the CCMA when dealing with non-compliance issues.

Empowering employers and employees through education and information sharing is a critical aspect of ensuring compliance and achieving decent work for all. These advocacy seminars provide an excellent opportunity for employers, employees, and their organizations to gain valuable insights into the intricacies of South African labor legislation and dispute resolution processes.

Registration for the seminars begins at 09:30, with the sessions commencing at 10:00 at the Mark Strasse Civic Centre in Richards Bay.
