IPID Investigates Alleged Assault by SAPS Members on N1

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has launched an investigation into the recent allegations of assault involving members of the Protection Security Services in the South African Police Service (SAPS). This comes after the IPID Executive Director received a complaint from Members of Parliament, Mr. Whitfield and Mr. Terreblanche, regarding an incident that occurred on the N1 North in the Sandton Police Station precinct.

Incident Captured on Footage

The incident, which was captured on footage, showed members of SAPS assaulting the driver of a Volkswagen Polo and his passengers. IPID investigators have been proactive, contacting the family members of the victims to assist in laying charges against the implicated officers. The directorate has also been working with the employers of the victims to support the investigation process.
