Despite ongoing negotiations between Kaizer Chiefs and attacking midfielder Khama Billiat, reports suggest that the former Mamelodi Sundowns winger is unwilling to accept a pay cut. Bobby Motaung, the football manager of Kaizer Chiefs, claims that he is unaware of Billiat’s hesitation to accept the revised offer, but he did confirm that negotiations are ongoing.

No Salary Cut, Just a New Contract

Billiat’s contract expired on June 30, and after the club announced veteran goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune’s extension, many expected an update on the midfielder’s future. Motaung clarified the situation, stating that the negotiations are not about a salary cut since the player currently has no contract. He expressed hope that Billiat would remain with the team, but admitted that the outcome of negotiations remains uncertain.

Fans Divided on Billiat’s Future

The future of the Zimbabwean footballer has caused a divide among Kaizer Chiefs fans, with some arguing that he should leave due to his lack of significant contributions since joining the team in 2018. Earlier this week, The South African reported on the club’s reluctance to provide clarity on Billiat’s whereabouts.

Club Remains Tight-Lipped

Kaizer Chiefs corporate communications manager Vina Maphosa chose not to disclose specific information regarding the player. Instead, he stated that the team’s training camp is closed to the media, and any announcements related to player movements or contract conclusions will be issued when deemed appropriate.

Billiat’s Future Remains Uncertain

Meanwhile, the 32-year-old midfielder is said to be hopeful of receiving more attractive offers from clubs in North Africa or Saudi Arabia, where his talent has generated interest. The outcome of the ongoing negotiations between Kaizer Chiefs and Khama Billiat remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: the player’s future continues to create a divide among fans and generate speculation in the world of football.
