Kidnapped Welgemoed Woman Rescued and Reunited with Family; Five Arrests Made

A team effort by the multidisciplinary Provincial Anti-kidnapping Task Team resulted in the successful rescue of a 31-year-old Welgemoed woman who was kidnapped. The victim was found in Mfuleni on a Tuesday afternoon after being abducted on Friday evening, June 2, 2023.

The Kidnapping

The woman, whose identity remains undisclosed, left her family business in Parow, Industria, after finishing her work. She was kidnapped, and her car was abandoned at NY 99 in Gugulethu. After the missing woman did not return home from work, her family reported the incident to the authorities.

The Task Team

The Anti-kidnapping Task Team comprises Provincial Organised Crime investigators, Crime Intelligence, DPCI, Special Task Force members, hostage negotiators, the City of Cape Town, and the Provincial CSI team. The team worked tirelessly to locate the victim, employing various investigative techniques.

The Rescue

Thanks to the persistence and determination of the Task Team, the kidnapped woman was rescued from a house in Mfuleni. The victim is undergoing a medical examination to assess her well-being and any potential trauma from the harrowing ordeal.

The Suspects

The five male suspects, aged between 25 and 32, face charges of kidnapping, hijacking, human trafficking, and extortion. They are expected to appear in court shortly.
