The Ministry of Transport has launched the National Roadshow, an initiative aimed at accelerating and improving the conditions of roads and road infrastructure in South African provinces. Transport Minister, Ms. Sindisiwe Chikunga, has announced the Limpopo leg of the roadshow, which will start on Friday, 9 June 2023.
Focusing on Flagship Projects
The National Roadshow will focus on the government’s flagship projects, Operation Vala Zonke, and the Labour Intensive S’hamba Sonke project. Operation Vala Zonke aims to patch and fix potholes, while the Labour Intensive S’hamba Sonke project employs labor-intensive methods such as paving to construct and maintain gravel and rural roads.
Stakeholder Engagement
During her visit, Minister Chikunga will meet with prominent figures, including MECs for Transport and Community Safety, Public Works, Roads, and Infrastructure, and MMCs responsible for road infrastructure and maintenance in the districts. These officials and stakeholders will provide valuable insights into the state of Limpopo’s roads and infrastructure.
The State of Limpopo’s Roads
The oversight visits are a response to the notable deterioration in the condition of roads within provinces. After the roadshow, Minister Chikunga and the provincial leadership will hold a press conference to brief the media on the state of roads and road infrastructure in Limpopo.
Details of the Oversight Visit
The oversight visit will take place on Friday, 9 June 2023, at Meropa Casino & Entertainment World, Polokwane, Limpopo, from 12:00.
