Pimp My Shelter: An Opportunity to Transform the Lives of Shelter Animals

TEARS Animal Rescue offers a unique volunteering opportunity for animal enthusiasts looking to make a difference in the lives of shelter animals. The Pimp My Shelter event invites volunteers to revamp the shelter’s kennels and cattery, creating a more welcoming environment for the animals.

Enhancing the Shelter for the Animals

Participants will work on various projects to beautify and improve the kennels and cattery. These activities range from general improvements and painting to more specialized tasks such as varnishing, creating living pallet walls, and working on DIY projects. Each project focuses on enhancing the shelter for the animals, ensuring their stay is as comfortable as possible.

Projects for Volunteers

  • Project 1: Volunteers with a flair for painting can bring new life to the kennels with a fresh coat of Zodiac Night paint.
  • Project 2: Individuals with a talent for varnishing can add a protective finish to the shelter’s wooden surfaces using dark-stain wood varnish in shades of teal, oak, or imbuia.
  • Projects 3, 4, and 5: Nature lovers can cultivate a lush environment for the shelter animals by creating living pallet walls and gardens for the dogs and cats.
  • Project 6: Volunteers interested in carpentry and DIY projects can craft engaging and comfortable spaces for the feline residents of the shelter by working on cat jungle gyms.
  • Project 7: Skilled carpenters, builders, welders, and maintenance personnel can contribute their talents to customized projects assigned by TEARS Animal Rescue.

The Pimp My Shelter event will take place on September 16th, from 10 am to 2 pm, at TEARS Animal Rescue located at 4 Lekkerwater Road, Sunnydale. Interested individuals can sign up through the Pimp My Shelter webpage or contact the shelter at 021 785 4482.
