The seventh round of the Power Series at Killarney featured an impressive 26 cars on the grid for the Formula Libre open-wheelers. The high-energy competition between the racers resulted in some of the closest finishes of the day.
Race 1
Byron Mitchell in the Dolphin Engineering Reynard took the lead at the start of the first race, but he was quickly challenged by Andrew Rackstraw’s Sparco/RDSA Reynard. Rackstraw overtook Mitchell in the second lap, and despite Mitchell’s best efforts, Rackstraw managed to hold him off and secure a narrow victory. Storm Lanfear took third place, while Dee-Jay Booysen finished fourth.
Kelly Fletcher led the midfield pack and secured the Formula Vee honors, followed by Haydn Ellwood, Zane Amundsen, Ludovickus Gerber, and Herman Krige.
Race 2
In the second race, Mitchell held onto his lead against Rackstraw’s aggressive moves and emerged victorious by a margin of just 0.121 seconds. The two leaders lapped the entire field in their intense battle, with Allen Meyer finishing third. Darren Liebenberg took the fourth spot in a Formula M.
Amundsen won the Formula Vee competition, followed by Fletcher and Andre le Riche in third place.
Thermo Fires Clubmans Saloons Races
Imaad Modack and the MIM Carriers M4 dominated the Thermo Fires Clubmans Saloons races, winning the first race by a significant margin of 17 seconds. Yusuf Hendricks took the honors for the first Class B driver, while Gary Smith led Class C in the Truckport Logistics 530. Charl Opperman’s Torq Lubricants Golf 1 won Class D, and Andre van der Merwe emerged victorious in Class F with the Huguenot Vallei/M Water Chrysler 300C.
In the second race, Modack took the lead early on and ultimately won, followed by Shane Smith and Daanyaal Coetzee. Gary Smith took first place in Class C, Hendricks in Class B, Oliver Hintenaus led Class D, and Van der Merwe took home Class F win.
Laude Classic Cars Category
Franco Donadio and his Ford Escort Mk1 dominated the Laude Classic Cars category, winning both races. Bruce Avern-Taplin’s Toyota Corolla claimed victory in Class B, while Robert Rowe and Neil Mouton took the honors in Classes D and E, respectively.
Overall, Round 7 of the Power Series at Killarney showcased the incredible talent and passion of the racers who continue to push the limits of their vehicles and themselves in pursuit of victory on the track.
