The City’s Environmental Management Department is committed to bridging the gap between city life and nature through the [Experiential Education Garden](https://capetown.today/florida-gators-and-rad-youth-centre-collaborate-to-create-self-sustaining-vegetable-garden) (EEG) at Green Point Park. In December 2020, the EEG project began, spearheaded by the City’s Deputy Mayor and Mayoral Committee Member for Spatial Planning and Environment, Alderman Eddie Andrews. The project’s success has paved the way for the construction of the dome-shaped classroom.

The Khoi People’s Heritage

The dome-shaped classroom pays homage to the Khoi people’s heritage, the First Nations group of the region. The design of the dome is similar to the dwellings of the Khoi people and showcases their rich history with exhibitions and educational programs.

A Unique Outdoor Environmental Education Space

The dome-shaped classroom is a remarkable structure that is seamlessly integrated with the existing Khoe structures and information displays in the biodiversity showcase garden. Alderman Andrews expressed his excitement about the project, highlighting the importance of reconnecting city dwellers, especially children, to the environment. The structure will enhance the offerings of the EEG and serve as a standout feature of the park.

A Safe Space for Learners and Visitors

With the construction nearing completion in August, the dome structure has piqued the interest of Green Point Park visitors and residents alike. The EEG, coupled with the dome classroom, will provide a safe space for learners and visitors to engage with nature and deepen their understanding of the environment.

Fostering a Love for the Environment and Cultural Heritage

The EEG, along with the domed classroom, promises to transform Green Point Park into an educational hub, fostering a love for the environment and a deeper appreciation of the Khoi people’s history. With such innovative initiatives, the city aims to further its role as a pioneer in environmental conservation and cultural preservation.

Witnessing a Piece of History in the Making

Visitors are encouraged to witness this piece of history in the making by visiting Green Point Park. The fusion of innovative design, environmental education, and cultural heritage makes the EEG at Green Point Park poised to become a beacon of inspiration and learning for generations to come.
