1 min read
illegal mining community safety

The Riverlea community, located west of Johannesburg, has been combating the threat of zama-zama gangs, and their collective efforts have led to the intervention of Police General Bheki Cele. The police have taken action in the area, and on July 31, General Cele visited Riverlea to evaluate the progress made by the local police in tackling illegal mining and other criminal activities.

Specialized Police Units Tackle Illegal Mining

As a result of the community’s outcry, specialized police units, led by Major General Zulu of Operational Response Services, have been deployed to Riverlea. The operation has involved stopping and searching individuals, resulting in numerous arrests. The police have also confiscated various illegal mining equipment, such as pendukas and gas cylinders.

Vision Tactical Security has supported the operation by deploying drones to assist members on the ground. This collaboration has helped enhance the effectiveness of the operation in addressing community concerns.

Intelligence-Driven Operation in Delmas

In a separate incident in Delmas, an intelligence-driven operation led to the arrest of 16 suspects running a drug laboratory and refinery. The police recovered gold-bearing materials, mining equipment, and a stolen TLB from Gauteng Province.

The arrested individuals are set to appear in court on charges related to drug trafficking, illegal mining, and possession of stolen property.

Collaboration Promotes Community Safety

The successful operations in Riverlea and Delmas demonstrate the effectiveness of innovative strategies and technology, such as drone deployment, in promoting community safety. The collaboration between specialized police units and Vision Tactical Security serves as an example of the power of collective action in tackling criminal activities.

Continued Partnership Ensures Safety

The incidents in Riverlea and Delmas highlight the ongoing challenges faced by communities in dealing with illegal mining, drug trafficking, and other criminal activities. It is crucial to continue strengthening the partnership between community members and law enforcement agencies to ensure the safety and well-being of all residents. With determination and cooperation, communities can reclaim their streets and protect their neighborhoods from criminal activities.
