The City of Cape Town’s Road Infrastructure Management Department has announced a critical road maintenance project set to commence on September 17, 2023, in the suburb of Tokai. This project aims to improve the condition of roads and facilitate smoother traffic flow in the area.
Scheduled Timing of Roadworks
To minimize traffic disruption, the roadworks will be carried out from Monday to Friday during specific time slots: 09:00 to 15:30 during the day, and 20:00 to 05:00 at night.
Roads Targeted for Resurfacing
The roads earmarked for resurfacing include Steenberg Road, Orpen Road, and Firgrove Way.
Tasks to be Executed
The following tasks will be executed as part of the project:
– Trimming of overhead tree branches
– Relaying of kerb and channel
– Trimming of side drains (applicable to Firgrove Way only)
– Resurfacing of the roads with asphalt
– Reinstating road markings
Execution of Asphalt Resurfacing Work
The teams will conduct the asphalt resurfacing work at night on Steenberg Road, Orpen Road, and a portion of Firgrove Way. The remaining section of Firgrove Way will undergo resurfacing during the day.

Traffic Accommodation during Work
The resurfacing work will be carried out under Stop/Go temporary traffic controls, with traffic accommodated in half-widths.
