The meeting coincides with the 15th BRICS Summit and commemorates 25 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The Comprehensive Strategic Partnership governs their relationship, and the Ten-Year Strategic Programme of Cooperation (2020-2029) details the CSP’s action plan.

They will also seek to enhance multilateral cooperation, primarily within the context of BRICS, the G77 plus China, and the G20. South Africa and China will co-host the China-Africa Leader’s Roundtable on August 24th and engage in discussions on multilateral cooperation, particularly within the Forum for China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).
