South African rapper and television personality Molemo Maarohanye, popularly known as Jub Jub, has found himself in legal trouble once again. He recently handed himself over to the authorities and has been granted R10 000 bail after being charged with multiple crimes, including rape, assault, and attempted murder.

Arrest and Charges

Maarohanye’s latest appearance in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court marks a new chapter in the controversial artist’s career. Gauteng police confirmed his arrest and the charges brought against him, with police spokesperson Lt Col Mavela Masondo providing the details. According to Masondo, the rapper turned himself in at the Brixton police station, and a warrant for his arrest had already been issued.

Rape Allegations and Public Apology

The allegations against Maarohanye surfaced in 2021, following his interview with MacG on Podcast and Chill. During the conversation, he discussed his past relationship with actress Amanda du-Pont. The Skeem Saam actress subsequently accused Maarohanye of raping her multiple times over a two-year period while they were together. In response to her allegations, the rapper issued a public apology on his Instagram page, while denying the rape accusations.

Maarohanye’s apology stated, “It was inappropriate for me to discuss the intimate details of my relationship with Ms Du-Pont in public. I deeply regret the incident. I wish to apologize unreservedly to Amanda for the humiliation and hurt I caused her.”

Previous Legal Troubles

This is not the first time the rapper has faced legal issues. In 2010, Jub Jub caused a car crash that resulted in the deaths of four children and left two others with brain damage. Consequently, he was sentenced to 25 years in prison in 2012. Later on, he was released on parole in January 2017.

Impact on Career and Personal Life

The impact of the charges on Maarohanye’s career and personal life is already evident. As the rapper faces the possibility of returning to prison, his supporters and detractors await the outcome of the case with bated breath. In the meantime, Jub Jub’s legal team will undoubtedly be working diligently to prepare his defense and maintain his freedom.

Uncertain Future

As the legal proceedings progress, the South African entertainment world watches as one of its most notorious figures faces an uncertain future. Whether Jub Jub’s reputation will survive this latest scandal remains to be seen, but there is no doubt that his life and career will continue to captivate audiences, both in South Africa and abroad.
