A 21-year-old woman was recently apprehended by law enforcement officers in Kimberley for allegedly kidnapping a newborn baby from a local hospital. The quick and efficient response of the authorities led to a speedy resolution of the case.
The Incident
On Wednesday, September 6, 2023, around 5 pm, the infant girl was reported missing from the maternity ward at the hospital. The authorities immediately sprang into action, following leads and gathering information in pursuit of the kidnapper.
Apprehension of the Suspect
Thanks to the diligent work of the Kimberley Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences (FCS) unit, as well as the Kimberley Crime Intelligence Unit, the suspect was apprehended just two days later on Friday, September 8, at approximately 9 am. Officers found the unharmed infant and several of her belongings, including clothes, at the suspect’s residence in Greenpoint, Kimberley.
Reunification of the Infant with Her Parents
After the baby was discovered, she was taken to a healthcare facility for a thorough medical examination to ensure her well-being before being reunited with her relieved parents.

The female suspect will appear before the Kimberley Magistrates’ Court on charges of man stealing (kidnapping).
