The Lourens River Flood Alleviation Project is a R44.5 million initiative aimed at reducing the impact of catastrophic flooding in Strand, Somerset West, and nearby areas. Led by the City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate and the Lourens River Catchment Management Forum, the project involves reconstructing riverbanks, eliminating invasive plant species, and refurbishing a 6km stretch of the Lourens River, among other measures.
