After a lengthy legal battle that started in 2017, a federal court jury in New York finally decided that Ed Sheeran “independently” wrote his hit song “Thinking Out Loud,” which means he did not infringe on the copyright of Marvin Gaye’s classic “Let’s Get It On.” The lawsuit was brought by the heirs of Ed Townsend, a cowriter of “Let’s Get It On.”
