Recent efforts to address the root causes of crime in the Western Cape have arrested several suspects for illegal firearm possession. The arrests were made following a shooting in Manenberg, where a 13yearold boy was injured. As a result, antigang unit members increased their efforts and apprehended a 34yearold woman attempting to dispose of a CZ pistol with a fully loaded magazine containing 15 rounds. The illegal firearm and ammunition led to the possibility that it was linked to the shooting of the 13yearold, and the matter is currently under investigation.
Thabo Bester, a South African fugitive, and his accomplice, Dr. Nandipha Magudumana, were arrested in Tanzania on Friday night, after a prolonged investigation and search. Bester escaped from the Mangaung Correctional Centre on 3 May 2022 by faking his death in a cell fire. Since then, he and Magudumana had been living in a rented mansion in Sandton, where they operated Arum Properties together, scamming several people into paying millions for construction projects that were never completed.
Three members of a notorious gang that terrorized people in three areas of South Africa have recently been found guilty and given a total of 705 years in jail. The three criminals, Calvin Congo Mabunda, Sibusiso Shamase Mkhwanazi, and Bhova Sticks Nkuna, were given their sentences by the South Gauteng High Court. They were found guilty on 19 charges, including murder, robbery, assault, attempted murder, possession of guns, ammo, and kidnapping.
