South African music band Jamali, the winners of the CocaCola Popstars competition in 2003, is celebrating their 20year journey with a 20Year Legacy Celebration concert on 5 August 2023 in Pretoria. The group, composed of Jacky Carpede, Mariechan Luiters, and Liesl Penniken, has been a major force in the South African music scene, with platinum album sales, soldout concerts, and numerous music awards.
Jamali was a girl group that emerged in the early 2000s from Coca Cola Pop Stars, a South African television show. The group comprised Jacqui Carpede, Mariechan Luiters, and Liesl Penniken, and their debut single, “Greatest Love,” propelled them to fame. Over their 16year career, Jamali released four studio albums and earned critical acclaim and a devoted fanbase in South Africa’s music scene.
