The City of Cape Town’s Cape Skills and Employment Accelerator Project celebrated another cohort of young Capetonians’ graduation. The graduation ceremony took place at the Banqueting Hall in the Civic Centre, where Alderman James Vos, the Mayoral Committee member for Economic Growth, graced the event. Alderman Vos discussed the program’s performance, which aims to provide economic opportunities for unemployed young people.

This initiative by the Gauteng Provincial Government (GPG) celebrates the 47th anniversary of the June 16, 1976 youth uprising and focuses on “Promoting sustainable livelihoods and resilience of young people for a better tomorrow.”
Suraya Williams, a gifted seamstress from Cape Town, South Africa, transformed her mourning after her mother’s death into an opportunity to inspire and empower young women in her community. In 2018, she founded the Design26 Foundation to provide skills, jobs, and a more positive outlook on life for young women in Mitchell’s Plain, an area with a high youth unemployment rate of 43.4% in South Africa.
South Africa’s Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development (DALRRD) recently presented its Budget Vote for the 2023/24 financial year. In response to the challenges faced by rural communities due to extreme weather events, the COVID19 pandemic, and an ongoing electricity crisis, the department emphasized several key initiatives aimed at empowering and uplifting these communities.
