An even more disturbing incident took place the following day when an off-duty sergeant was fatally shot in Tsolo. Sgt Obey Sotewu, a member of the Stock Theft and Endangered Species Unit in Mthatha, was found dead inside his vehicle. The motive behind this senseless killing remains unknown, but the perpetrator is believed to be a friend of Sgt Sotewu who has since disappeared with the officer’s service pistol.
