Nestled among the beautiful vineyards of Nederburg Wine Farm, just outside Paarl, lies The Manor, a stunning farm-style restaurant that is perfect for all-day family dining. The restaurant, which is situated in a beautifully reimagined building dating back to 1791, boasts breathtaking views of the Drakenstein mountains and the vineyards that the farm is famous for. It opens out onto lush gardens and expansive lawns where children can run and play on the jungle gyms and ziplines.
The Manor’s versatile menu caters to all dietary persuasions and children’s preferences, making it an ideal place for a family meal. The menu suggests well-matched pairings for each dish with the winery’s award-winning wines. The Manor’s accent is on mindful dining, featuring local and lekker or more exotic dishes. The menu changes with the seasons, offering Asian-inspired freshness in the harvest poke bowl, the seasonal stir-fry, and local-is-lekker spices and aromas in the Cape Malay beef tartare. For meat lovers, there are amasi-fried chicken burgers served on pickled cabbage, plankie steaks, and pork belly ramen. The seared trout, farmed on the property in an eco-sensitive aquaponics project that also produces herbs, exotic lettuces, and vegetables for the restaurant, is a must-try. A daily specials board features unique dishes that you won’t find anywhere else.
To end your meal, try the imaginative dessert menu, which plays on old favorites. The white-chocolate fondant with pumpkin as a secret ingredient or the buchu-infused amasi parfait is a must-try. The cheese platter goes wonderfully with a glass of The Winemasters Noble Late Harvest.
The Manor House restaurant serves breakfast and brunch (until 11.30am) and a selection of platters and snack boards. For those looking for an alfresco dining experience, The Manor also offers picnic baskets, which include blankets, cushions, crockery, glasses, a bottle of bubbly or wine of choice from The Winemasters collection, and a range of finger foods, salads, cheeses, and bread.
The restaurant also sells grape jams and conserves to enjoy at home.
In addition to the beautiful views, delicious food, and extensive menu, The Manor’s staff is attentive and friendly. The service is fast, and the atmosphere is relaxed. However, some visitors have experienced issues with staff and service, which might have impacted their dining experience.
The Manor also offers a wine tasting experience to delight your palate. The restaurant offers Nederburg Wines at a fair price.
Please note that booking for picnics (24 hours in advance) and the restaurant is essential.
