Transport Minister Sindisiwe Chikunga is taking the lead in the Limpopo Leg of the National Roadshow, an initiative by the Ministry of Transport to accelerate and enhance road conditions and infrastructure in South African provinces. This event invites media representatives to witness Minister Chikunga’s visit to Limpopo on Friday, June 9, 2023, where she will assess the province’s roads and infrastructure.
Focus on Flagship Projects
The National Department of Transport introduced Operation Vala Zonke, a pothole patching program designed to improve and maintain the quality of South Africa’s road network. Meanwhile, the Labour Intensive S’hamba Sonke project aims to construct and maintain gravel and rural roads using labor-intensive methods. Both projects contribute to the government’s efforts to enhance the country’s road infrastructure.
Minister Chikunga’s Visit
During her visit, Minister Chikunga will be received by MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Ms. Florence Radzilani, MEC for Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure, Ms. Nkakareng Rakgoale, and MMCs responsible for road infrastructure and maintenance in the Districts. Additionally, relevant officials and stakeholders will also be present to welcome the minister.

Following the roadshow, Minister Chikunga will join provincial leadership in holding a press conference to provide media updates regarding the state of roads and infrastructure in Limpopo province. The oversight visit is scheduled to take place at 12:00 PM at Meropa Casino & Entertainment World in Polokwane, Limpopo.
