The Renishaw Coastal Precinct is a large-scale mixed-use development spanning 1,300 hectares in KwaZulu-Natal’s mid-South Coast. It has become one of South Africa’s most significant projects, with an estimated investment of R15 billion upon completion and potential job creation for thousands of locals.

A Unique Approach

President Cyril Ramaphosa acknowledged the development at the 5th South African Investment Conference, praising its innovative approach that intertwines conservation, community, and economic growth. The Renishaw Coastal Precinct has contributed 142 hectares of land and 10% of the development company to the local community to empower them while driving economic development.

Government Recognition

Deputy Ministers in the Presidency, Mr. Kenneth Morolong and Ms. Nomasonto Motaung, have also showcased the precinct during a media tour to KwaZulu-Natal. The Managing Director of Renishaw Coastal Precinct, Barto van der Merwe, expressed his delight in sharing their vision and achievements with government representatives and media personnel.

Strong Investment Potential

Renishaw Hills, the mature lifestyle estate within the precinct, has shown significant investment potential with home values increasing by 50% in just five years. The surrounding communities are also expected to experience a significant economic stimulus as various projects and collaborations unfold.

Conservation and Sustainability

The Renishaw Coastal Precinct incorporates conservation areas surrounding its five development nodes, creating a self-sustaining, mixed-use precinct that offers substantial socio-economic benefits for local communities. The developers remain committed to inclusivity and sustainability, demonstrated by their donation of 142 hectares of land to the KwaCele Tribal Council and the upcoming acquisition of 10% of the development by the council through a buy-out process.

Economic Stimulus

The additional 142 hectares of land adjacent to the Renishaw Coastal Precinct opens new opportunities for sustainable income generation through agricultural practices and commercial ventures. The development aims to rekindle the local economy across various sectors, including job creation in both skilled and unskilled labor markets as security villages, office parks, retail spaces, educational institutions, medical facilities, and more materialize.

Community Empowerment

Once the development is operational, long-term staffing opportunities will arise for businesses in the area. The local community has already benefited from upskilling initiatives, with three members transitioning from laborers to business owners providing products and services to Renishaw Hills and its surrounding regions.

In conclusion, the Renishaw Coastal Precinct sets a new standard for future developments prioritizing environmental preservation and social inclusivity. Its unique blend of conservation, economic growth, and community empowerment embodies the true spirit of sustainable, community-driven development.
