Vigilant Officers Thwart Robbers and Keep the City Safe

The hardworking enforcement services of the city have been busy over the past week. A total of 321 arrests were made and 48,865 fines were issued for various transgressions. The Metro Police Department and Law Enforcement Department kept a watchful eye on the city’s streets and ensured the safety and security of its residents.

Recovered E-Bike in Elsiesriver

On 3rd of September, officers recovered a stolen E-Bike in Elsiesriver. The owner, who had been making a delivery in Parow, was relieved to have their valuable possession returned.

Swift Actions in Jakes Gerwel Drive

On 2nd September, officers patrolling Jakes Gerwel Drive conducted a stop-and-search on two men carrying Huawei cellphones. The officers inspected the phones and discovered that one had been reported as stolen. This keen observation led to the arrest of the two suspects, aged 23 and 29.

High-Speed Chase on Jakes Gerwel Drive

On the morning of 30th August, officers pursued a Toyota Avanza that had sped past them at the intersection of Jakes Gerwel Drive and the R300. The driver was later apprehended and upon inspecting the vehicle, officers noticed that the VIN number did not match the vehicle’s records. The car had been stolen in Nyanga in June, and the 29-year-old driver was subsequently arrested and detained.

Apprehension of Suspects Involved in Business Robbery

Officers received a tip about a vehicle involved in a business robbery in mid-August. They spotted the vehicle driving along Swartklip Road and managed to stop the driver in Montclair, leading to the arrest of three suspects aged between 25 and 39.

Swift Response to Robbery on the R300

On 28th August, officers responded promptly to a robbery on the R300 between the N2 and AZ Berman Drive. Officers managed to apprehend one of the suspects, who was later positively identified by the victim.

Aid to Stranded Motorist

A motorist stranded on the N2 in the early hours of 2nd September encountered a group of robbers who took his phone and cash. Metro Police officers came to his aid and stayed with him until he could safely continue on his journey.

Successes of the Enforcement Services

The City’s Law Enforcement Department made an additional 213 arrests and issued 2,553 notices for various transgressions. Meanwhile, the Traffic Service recorded 44,615 transgressions, impounded 222 vehicles, and executed 2,212 warrants of arrest. They also arrested 43 suspects, 37 of whom were driving under the influence of alcohol, and six for reckless and negligent driving.
