The City’s Urban Mobility Directorate has announced the temporary closure of a section of Church Street in Kuils River as part of its Congestion Management Strategy. This essential roadwork aims to upgrade Amandel Road into a dual carriageway, improving traffic flow in the area.

Upgrading Amandel Road

To facilitate the improvement, the existing dual carriageway will be extended by upgrading the single carriageway between the Bottelary River bridge and Church Street. A new secondary dualled road-over-river bridge will be constructed, running parallel to the existing bridge. Additionally, a separate cycling lane will be incorporated, extending from the roundabout at Langverwacht Road through to Soneike Mall.

Safety and Convenience Measures

During the roadworks, the safety and convenience of residents and commuters will be ensured. Roadworks are scheduled for Monday to Saturday, between 7:30 am and 5:30 pm. Alternative routes to access Amandel Road will be available via Sandalwood Road, Waternooientjie Street, and Langverwacht Road. Road closure and detour signs will guide motorists to the alternative access routes, and the work area will be demarcated to regulate traffic flow through the affected zone.

Support from City Officials

Councillor Rob Quintas, the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, acknowledges the project’s importance in enhancing public transport infrastructure and operations. He extends his gratitude to road users for their patience and support during the construction period.

Reporting Road-Related Concerns

The Transport Information Centre and the City’s Call Centre are available to report any road-related concerns. Additionally, a map detailing the closure of Church Street between Amandel Road and Kareeboom Avenue in Kuils River is provided.

This comprehensive project serves as a testament to the City’s commitment to enhancing urban mobility. By creating efficient, sustainable transportation options and improving traffic flow through road upgrades, the City is taking significant strides towards a more accessible and inclusive transportation network.
