The Waterside: La Colombe’s Smart-Casual Seaside Eatery

The Waterside

If you’re visiting Cape Town, take advantage of the chance to experience the La Colombe family of restaurants, one of the most reputable names in the local dining scene. Among their seven restaurants is The Waterside, their latest addition, which boasts a smart-casual vibe perfect for enjoying sumptuous lunches and early suppers with a view of Table Bay.

Location and Atmosphere

Located at the V&A Waterfront’s Pierhead Building, The Waterside offers a more relaxed and easy-going atmosphere away from the bustling central Victoria Wharf district. Although still sophisticated and creative in the La Colombe style, The Waterside has a casual fine-dining menu perfect for impromptu pop-ins.

Menu at The Waterside

Head chef Roxy Mudie has worked alongside Scot Kirton for over seven years, and her menu is inspired by the ocean, featuring surf-and-turf combinations such as seabass and mussels with Black Forest ham, pork belly with scallops, crayfish cooked over the coals served with roast quail, oysters in an umami broth with caviar, and Wagyu steak. She also offers a vegetarian version of each dish on request. Finally, to conclude your meal, you can indulge in a treasure chest of bonbons to satisfy your sweet tooth.

The Waterside has a well-designed menu with four courses, options on each class, and bread and snacks/palate cleansers.

Seating options

The restaurant is on the ground floor of the Pierhead Building, and you can choose between indoor seating or tables outside on the deck, where you can enjoy the picturesque view of the bay.

Service at The Waterside

The staff is friendly, enthusiastic, and professional, making your experience at The Waterside truly one of a kind. The restaurant’s service is impeccable, and you will be surprised by the presentation of the art dishes. You may choose to have wine paired with your meal or to end with a cup of La Colombe Coffee Roasters coffee.

Additional restaurant of the same chain

In addition, The Waterside has an upstairs restaurant called PIER, which offers a more formal, multi-course fine-dining experience.

Reservations

The four-course menu costs R695, and reservations can be made through DinePlan.

Accessibility and Beverages

The Waterside is wheelchair accessible, has a bar on-site, and serves hard liquor, great cocktails, beer, and wines.
