The City of Cape Town was filled with the spirit of athletic excellence during the annual Joe Slovo/Phoenix Sports Day weekend hosted by the Recreation and Parks Department. Despite some challenges, such as a structural issue with the boxing ring and the postponement of rugby matches to Heritage Day, the sports day was a resounding success thanks to the collaboration and support of community stakeholders, sports clubs, local football associations, and businesses.

Ward 4 Councillor Anthony Benadie, who initiated the event in partnership with the Recreation and Parks Department, emphasized the importance of investing in youth through sports and recreation.
