Celebrating Women in the Marketing, Advertising, and Communication Sector

The MAC Charter Council is organizing a Women’s Day event to honor and celebrate the contributions of women in the Marketing, Advertising, and Communication (MAC) sector. The event is scheduled for September 1, 2023, at the Inanda Polo Club in Sandton, Johannesburg, under the theme, “Driving transformation and empowerment: Advancing women in the MAC sector.”

The event aims to inspire and empower women in the MAC sector by celebrating their achievements and contributions. The gathering will feature insightful panel discussions and keynote speakers, including Deputy Minister in the Presidency Nomasonto Motaung and MAC B-BBEE Charter Council members. The attendees will be leaders and advocates of transformation and gender equity in the MAC sector, such as representatives from the Commission for Gender Equality and the B-BBEE Commission.

The MAC Charter Council is committed to fostering positive change by promoting gender equality, diversity, and leadership within the MAC sector. The council aims to stimulate valuable insight into discussions on women’s leadership within the industry through strategic initiatives and collaborative efforts.

One of the topics to be covered during the panel discussions is the procurement challenges faced by women-owned businesses in the MAC sector. The panelists will also explore possible interventions for broadening economic opportunities, which are crucial for the implementation of the MAC Charter.

MAC Charter Council’s Role

The MAC Charter Council, launched on March 25, 2022, is responsible for monitoring the transformation of the sector by facilitating the implementation of the B-BBEE sector code. The council comprises representatives from government, regulators, the MAC sector, women, youth, and organized labor, who are tasked with measuring the transformation progress made by the MAC industry.

Providing Guidance

The MAC Charter Council is also responsible for providing guidance to the MAC sector on matters related to empowerment and B-BBEE to achieve transformation, including the implementation of preferential procurement specifically empowering 30% black women-owned businesses in the MAC sector.
