National Women’s Day Office Closures and Alternative Service Options

In observance of National Women’s Day, the City of Cape Town will be closing its customer offices on August 9, 2023. While this may cause disruptions to some municipal services, the City is urging residents to take advantage of its e-Services and online payment options to ensure a seamless and convenient experience.

Office Closures

Among the municipal offices that will be closed are cash, motor vehicle registration and licensing, Human Settlements offices, Driving Licence Testing Centres (DLTCs), and municipal courts. Additionally, customer offices within the Lansdowne Corner Mall, Liberty Promenade Mall, and Table Bay Mall will remain closed for the day.

Alternative Payment Options

The City recognizes the need for residents to make municipal account payments and is offering numerous alternatives, including:

  • Online payments at www.powertime.co.za or www.easypay.co.za.
  • Payments at popular retail establishments such as Shoprite/Checkers, Pick n Pay, PEP, Woolworths, USave, Ackermans, Lewis, Top It Up, and selected Spar shops.
  • Online motor vehicle licence renewals at https://eservices.capetown.gov.za/.

Payment Methods

Residents have several payment methods to choose from, including:

  • Online payments through www.easypay.co.za or www.powertime.co.za
  • Electronic funds transfers (EFTs) with the City listed as a bank beneficiary and the nine-digit account number as a reference.
  • Payments at selected retailers such as Checkers, Pick n Pay, Shoprite, Spar, and Woolworths.
  • Accessing the City’s online e-Services portal.
  • Adding the City as an ATM beneficiary through their bank.

Benefits of e-Services

By registering for e-Services, residents can enjoy the following benefits:

  • Renew vehicle licences
  • Submit water/electricity meter readings
  • Pay municipal accounts online (debit order payment option only)
  • Access current account and account history
  • Apply to receive accounts via email
  • Log service requests

Fine Payments

The City has transitioned to Pay@ as its new online and retailer third-party service provider for fine payments. Motorists can now view and pay fines and warrants online at https://www.paythat.co.za/, including those issued before 1 July 2022.

Other electronic payment methods available include card payments with VISA and Mastercard, EFTs with ABSA, FNB, Nedbank, Capitec, and Standard Bank, and scan-to-pay options with Masterpass, Snapscan, Zapper, FNB, Nedbank, and ABSA.

In-Person Fine Payments

For those who prefer to pay their fines in person, fines issued before 1 July 2022 can be paid at selected Spar shops. Fines issued after 1 July 2022 can be paid at selected Spar shops, Ackermans, Builder’s Warehouse, Game, Makro, PEP, Pick n Pay, and Shoprite/Checkers Money Market kiosks.

The City appreciates its customers’ patience and understanding during this time and encourages the use of online services to ensure a smooth and uninterrupted experience.
