With the new season approaching, Orlando Pirates has been busy finalizing their transfer deals, carefully balancing their squad with incoming and outgoing players. The club has recently signed six new players and released seven.

New Signings

The team’s latest recruits include Melusi Buthelezi, Sephelo Baloni, Katlego Otladisa, Patrick Maswanganyi, and Lesedi Kapinga. Kapinga, a free agent from Mamelodi Sundowns, joined the team to strengthen their lineup. Karim Kimvuidi, a highly sought-after playmaker from Maritzburg United, has also signed with the club.

Additionally, to boost their midfield, the Pirates have recruited 21-year-old Cebo Mchunu from Bizana Pondo and goalkeeper Siphamandla Gumede from Dondol Stars. Both Mchunu and Gumede are expected to be loaned to a DStv Premiership or Motsepe Foundation Championship club next season.

Departures

The club has also seen several departures, including Nkanyiso Zungu, Ndumiso Mabena, Kopano Thuntsane, and Collins Makgaka. Martin also left the Pirates after signing with Chippa United. Zungu has been performing well at the Royal AM coach, and Mabena is rumored to be on Polokwane City’s radar. Makgaka is believed to be close to a deal with Stellenbosch FC.

Goodman Mosele has also left the club on loan to the Chilli Boys. In addition, young academy goalkeeper Allesandro du Plessis has reportedly caught the attention of Spanish club Malaga and Belgian squad KRC Gent.

Du Plessis’s Transfer

Du Plessis’s impressive aerial ability, one-on-one shot-stopping skills, and command over the defense have impressed both Malaga and KRC Gent. The Pirates’ recent signings of goalkeepers Buthelezi and Gumede have increased the club’s goalkeeping numbers to five. With Gumede set for a loan move, du Plessis’s chances of joining the first team have decreased. A move abroad might be the best option for the young goalkeeper.

As Orlando Pirates finalizes their squad for the upcoming season, supporters eagerly anticipate the results of the club’s strategic transfer moves. The combination of promising new signings and calculated outgoings suggests an exciting and competitive season is in store for the team.
