Minister Senzo Mchunu of Water and Sanitation in South Africa recently called on the nation’s youth to share their innovative ideas with the water sector. Speaking at the Durban International Conference Centre for the National Youth Indaba, the minister emphasized the importance of meaningful engagement and contributions to the water and sanitation sector.

The annual Youth Indaba, held from June 26, 2023, aims to provide young people with development opportunities and educate them about their role in the water and sanitation sector. This year’s Indaba seeks to accelerate youth economic emancipation for a sustainable future.

Participants at the week-long event include school learners, employed and unemployed youth, self-employed individuals, and young water professionals. The Indaba fosters discussions, technical expertise, and knowledge sharing to improve institutional governance, job creation, skills development, economic growth, social cohesion, and ultimately, service delivery to communities.

Launching the South African Young Water Professionals Network

The Indaba serves as an opportunity to launch the South African Young Water Professionals Network, which will establish a sector-wide youth forum to contribute to the country’s water and sanitation challenges.
