National Water and Sanitation Youth Indaba 2023

The annual Youth Indaba, held from June 26, 2023, aims to provide young people with development opportunities and educate them about their role in the water and sanitation sector. This year’s Indaba seeks to accelerate youth economic emancipation for a sustainable future.

Participants at the week-long event include school learners, employed and unemployed youth, self-employed individuals, and young water professionals. The Indaba fosters discussions, technical expertise, and knowledge sharing to improve institutional governance, job creation, skills development, economic growth, social cohesion, and ultimately, service delivery to communities.

Launching the South African Young Water Professionals Network

The Indaba serves as an opportunity to launch the South African Young Water Professionals Network, which will establish a sector-wide youth forum to contribute to the country’s water and sanitation challenges.

Active Involvement of Youth Crucial in the Water Sector

With South Africa grappling with water scarcity and sanitation issues, the active involvement of young people in the water sector is crucial. The government is committed to empowering the youth and harnessing their innovative thinking to find long-lasting solutions to these pressing challenges.

Minister Mchunu’s call to action and the Youth Indaba’s objectives highlight the critical role of young people in the water and sanitation sector. Through dialogue, knowledge sharing, and practical experience, the country’s youth can contribute to the development and implementation of sustainable solutions to water challenges.
