Gauteng Legislature Examines First Quarter Crime Statistics, IPID Cases, and Metro Police Performance

On Tuesday, the Gauteng Provincial Legislature will hold a briefing to discuss the province’s crime statistics for the first quarter of the 2023/24 financial year. The session will be attended by legislators, stakeholders, and law enforcement representatives.

Gauteng Police Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Elias Mawela, will present the crime data for the period between April and June 2023. Gauteng Independent Police Investigation Directorate (IPID) representatives will report to the Portfolio Committee on Community Safety about ongoing investigations, while Metro Police Departments from Tshwane, Johannesburg, and Ekurhuleni will present their performance reports. Gauteng MEC for Community Safety, Faith Mazibuko, will also present her department’s performance report for the same quarter.
