Arrest Made in Tragic Murder of 8-Year-Old Boy

In a horrific incident that has shaken the community of Kraaifontein, an 8-year-old boy was found dead during a sleepover at a friend’s house. The discovery was made by one of the adults in the house, and the police were immediately notified.

Suspect Identified as Convicted Rapist

After six days of investigation, the police arrested a 47-year-old male suspect in connection with the murder. During his first court appearance, it was revealed that the suspect had a previous conviction for rape in 2005.

The State disclosed that the victim had been sleeping next to the accused, while the latter’s child was in a separate bed. The cause of death appeared to be strangulation, and the victim had nail marks on his neck.

Court Proceedings and Bail Application

The suspect faced murder charges and was given the option of seeking legal aid or hiring a private attorney for the trial. He implored the court to consider his employment situation, but the State opposed bail due to the severity of the crime and the suspect’s criminal history.

A formal bail application was scheduled for 28 June 2023, and the suspect remains in police custody.
